Choosing the right Medicare supplemental plan requires careful analysis of your current health situation and other needs related to Network providers and travel. There are two main options to consider once you obtain your Medicare Part A and B.

  1. Medicare Supplement, sometimes referred to as “MediGap” is designed to fill the “gaps” not covered by original Medicare, for example copays and deductibles. With Medicare Supplement you will also need a separate Plan D for prescriptions. With Medicare Supplement usually you can choose any provider that accepts Medicare.
  1. Medicare Advantage plans are contracted to provide at least the same level of coverage as Original Medicare and they are offered by private insurance companies. They generally offer better value either in terms of lower or no monthly premiums or improved benefits.  In addition to the benefits you would receive from an Original Medicare plan, your Medicare Advantage plan can include prescription drug coverage (otherwise known as Plan D) plus dental and vision care. Medicare Advantage plans offer HMO and PPO where you will choose your Primary Care Physician to coordinate your healthcare needs.
